Book | Bitter-Sweet Harvest
Hello guys! It's lovely Thursday morning with the beautiful sunshine, hear the bird humming and living in the country side is so lively and lovely *happy mode on*.
I just found new book in store and gladly want to share with all. It's from our local writer Chan Ling Yap.Bitter-Sweet Harvest tells of the difficulties and tensions involved in a marriage between a Malay Muslim and a Chinese Christian.Sound interesting and try to grab one peepz!
The front cover of Bitter-Sweet Harvest features an early 19th century lidded Nyonya jar. The jar is set against a background symbolic of contrasting cultures: mosques, cathedrals and the spires of Oxford.Nyonya porcelain originates from China and was made especially for early Chinese immigrants who settled initially in Malacca, adopting the way of life, dress and even speech of the Malays living there. In the early days of their migration, which go as far back as the 15th and 16th century, many of these ‘Straits Chinese’ married local Malay women.
Here a little about the book | Set in a Malaysia emerging from the outbreak of racial conflict in 1969,Bitter-Sweet Harvest tells of thedifficulties and tensions involved in a marriage between a Malay Muslim and a Chinese Christian. Atmospheric, dramatic, action-packed and intriguing, it is pepperedwith local flavour evoking the heat, colours and sounds of Southeast Asia. The novel takes the reader on a spell-binding journey through contrasting cultures: from the learned spires of Oxford in England to the East coast of Malaysia; from Singapore to Italy and on toIndonesia.
Bitter-Sweet Harvest is the sequel to the novel Sweet Offerings. The stories can be read in any order and are complete in themselves.
Get this one too!

Things People Cannot Do After Eating Meals
1. Do not eat fruits immediately after meal. Many people like to eat fruit after a meal, but this is a wrong life habit. After food enters the stomach, it takes 1 to 2 hours to go through the digestion. If people eat fruit immediately after a meal, the fruits will be blocked by the previous foods and cannot be digested normally. After a long time, it can cause bloating, diarrhea or constipation and other symptoms.
2. Do not drink strong tea after meal. The strong tea could dilute the gastric acid and impact food digestion. In addition, tea contains large amounts of tannic acid, which could form the difficult digested precipitate with not digested protein and influence the absorption of protein. Tea also hinders the absorption of iron, which can even lead to long-term iron deficiency anemia.
3. Do not smoke after meal. The danger of smoking after a meal is 10 times than usual. The digestive tract after eating increases blood circulation, resulting in a large number of harmful ingredients in cigarettes being absorbed and damage the liver, brain and heart blood vessels to cause these diseases.
4. Do not have bath after a meal. If people take a bath after dinner, the blood flow of body surface will increase and gastrointestinal blood flow will be reduced, so that the stomach's digestive function is weakened and cause indigestion.
5. It is not right to relax belt after dinner. Many people feel full and uncomfortable after eating too much, so they like to relax belt. Although the stomach is comfortable, it will cause a decline in intra-abdominal pressure, forcing stomach sag. Over time, people may get gastroptosis.
6. Do not drive cars after meal. The driver is easy to drive a car accident immediately after a meal. This is because gastrointestinal digestion of food requires a lot of blood and it would result in transient ischemia of brain organs and cause operational errors.
